Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 20, 2026 (PMO) – The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, under the leadership of Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, is once again providing practical relief to households facing challenges with outstanding electricity and water accounts, building on the successful utility reconnection assistance introduced as part of the Independence 40 Reset.
During the Federation’s 40th Anniversary of Independence celebrations in 2023, the Drew-led Administration implemented the Independence 40 Reset, which provided thousands of citizens and residents with an opportunity to address outstanding utility balances and have their electricity and water services restored. The initiative formed part of the Government’s people-centred approach to giving families a fresh start while restoring access to services that are essential to everyday life.
Three years later, the Government is again working with the St. Kitts Electricity Company Limited (SKELEC) and the Water Services Department to provide workable avenues for customers experiencing difficulty with utility arrears.
Through SKELEC’s “Reconnect 15” Customer Reconnection Promotion, which runs from August 1 to August 31, 2026, eligible customers can make a 15 percent down payment on their outstanding account to begin the process of restoring their electricity service. The initiative also provides for a reduced reconnection fee, while salary deduction arrangements may be applied in qualifying circumstances to facilitate more convenient and manageable payments.
Customers wishing to benefit are encouraged to contact SKELEC’s Customer Service Debt Management Division to discuss their individual accounts and determine eligibility.
At the same time, the Water Services Department is encouraging customers with disconnected services or significant arrears to engage directly with the Department to explore favourable reconnection options designed to accommodate different financial circumstances. Customers who are not receiving their water bills or who need to update their contact information are also being encouraged to make contact with the Department.
The latest reconnection initiatives complement the Government’s broader programme of measures aimed at easing cost-of-living pressures and protecting households from persistent global economic pressures. They also reinforce the Administration’s approach of pairing immediate assistance with responsible mechanisms that allow citizens to regularise their accounts and remain connected over the longer term.
The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis remains focused on delivering meaningful progress, strengthening essential services and ensuring that its policies continue to put people first.
