Basseterre, Saint Kitts, April 30, 2026 (SKNIS): The Ministry of Environment, Climate Action and Constituency Empowerment has officially launched its Leaders for Environmental Action and Future (LEAF) Ambassadors Programme, aimed at fostering youth leadership in environmental stewardship.
The initiative, introduced in celebration of Earth Day on April 22, marks a significant step in engaging young people in climate action and sustainability efforts across the Federation.
“We welcomed our first cohort of 11 intelligent, ambitious, passionate members, some of whom were selected based on their stellar intrigue at our Climate Action and Youth Symposium held this year in partnership and with full sponsorship of UNICEF,” said Senator the Honourable Dr. Joyelle Clarke. “I must use this opportunity to name and congratulate these young persons. Our 11 ambassadors have already been busy making their mark for Arbor Day, 24th April.”
As part of their early activities, the ambassadors successfully led tree planting initiatives across several schools in Saint Kitts and Nevis, with support from national and regional partners.

“The ministry is fully committed to our belief that the environment is for everyone, and this programme is proof of that,” she said. “We are also looking forward to working together and supporting these young persons. And I firmly believe that this new adventure will bring forth some amazing and environmentally friendly successes.”
The LEAF Programme forms part of the government’s broader push to empower youth while advancing its Sustainable Island State Agenda.
